Hehe... it just amused me.. I was reading the gravity BBS and came across a thread that basically said "I'm trying to code a bot that's more responsive and human like... this bot won't loot or KS... that way people won't dislike this bot and it'll be okay to use it"...

Heh, ultimately the principle is still the same whether the bot says Hello or not ^^

At least in my humble opinion

a bot is a bot.. no matter how they are doing it

it might be dislike less than other bots.. but still a bot and thus it is cheating.

I'm thinking he's trying to make a bot like in the MUDs, which were fine, they didn't do anything except pass out info...but Gravity should make their NPCs able to handle that. Um, I guess they want to make a "better" NPC.

Hehe... They were talking about making the bot kill though, etc. etc. so used for levelling up for people who didn't have "time" like themselves, but it'd be a polite bot... I think it's wrong still as well ^^ if no one picked that up yet

I'm with Chibi-Bar on this one. A bot is a bot whether it kill steals or not. Every monster it kills and every rare it picks up is one less for someone who actually plays the game.

I know what he meant about a bot.. it still goes out and level.. and sure.. it does not pick up drops.. but seriously..

a person who made the bot would at least try to pickup rare loots right? so it is probably not a true lootless bot..

I mean... a brooch? (1.2 million zeny) earrings? ring? it is hard NOT to make it loot

acctually itd be very easy to make it not loot, if it didnt pick it up, you dont know you could have had it, so you wont miss it
and ive had a ninja suit drop 2 squares from me, i didnt even flinch, just went 'ooo, what a lucky person that is' as they picked up there ninja suit

The impression I got from the post was that he wanted the bot to pick up nothing but his own items from his own kills

Bots are lame, whether they KS, loot, say anything, or not. Like Chibi-Bar said, every monster the bot kills is one less that a real player gets. Sure I KS bots whenever I can and follow the non looting bots around and grab everything I can from them, but that doesn't mean I'm glad they're there, I'd much rather kill the monsters myself and get the exp for it too.

^^ I agree... I will loot bots but I generally don't KS them b/c I want full exp for myself.. I -will- however follow newbs who KS my party members and not allow them to get any kills in whatsoever... b/c they're a human char and it pisses them off... I know I'm evil... but I give 3 warnings first ^~ And when they laugh in my face... I just follow them around and kill everything... kind of amusing when they log out and wait a bit and when they log back in I'm just sitting there waiting for them... ^^

Yeah, it's especially bad in places like Orc Forest where SS Mages and Archers will follow a group around and leech exp off them. When that happens to us we either sit and wait for them to go away, or we split into 2 smaller groups and the one that isn't followed will build up a little train and lead it towards the other group, then we all log out at once and let the leech deal with the horde of angry Orcs. Then we log in again a few seconds later, clean up the train, and laugh at the moron if they haven't respawned yet.

I would have no problem with bots if:

A) The user coded it themselves,
and B) They did not distribute it.

To me, these games are at least partially about using your skills to gain an advantage. If your skills lie in coding more than actually playing the game, more power to you.

However, the flood of bots recently has given me the impression that these people care more for mindless levelling with no thought required than any sort of interaction. If that's the case, go play Diablo or something. If you don't want any interaction at all, go play Progress Quest. It offers just as much interaction with the game world as any of these bots do.
