Im currently writing a compleat specification on the ro protocol.
So far I'v done all data sent from the client. I'm working on the
data sent by the server now and it takes allot of time. I was hoping
someone could help me with this. I dont want to realese the specification
to public to prevent more bot making. But it would be fun to have a
compleate specification of the ro protocol. Do you have any time to help
me with it Sasami? I'll send you the client->server spec. if you want.
I'm planing to make a bot though  dont kill me now. It's going to be
a nice lil fellow. A helper bot. I think that gravity hasnt really succeded
in informing the newcomings about everything, so I though I would do
a bot that could answer questions about ro.
A little senario:
n00b: I want to be a swordman, what shall I do?
bot: To become a swordman you must first reach joblevel 9. Then you go to the swordmen guild in Izulde and talk to the NPC called "Swordman".
n00b: Thank you!
bot: Your welcome!
or why not,
player (wisper to bot): seen bumby?
bot (wisper to player): bumby was last seen in rockerfield at 12:40:32 CET
Ohwell, you get the point  A nice and helpfull bot. Could even have one standing in each town.

that's a real real controversal one, i don't think your bot would be bad at all.. but releasing the protocols is a dangerous move... it would easily allow other people to make bots/bad hacks with that kind of info.
What way are you monitering the packets? i could probably make it slightly easier for you if you wanted... mind sending me a copy of what you have so far? hehe
An example of what i mean... if you send the packet to teleport, it will allow people to more easily make a new last point program that doesn't make you wait, and can abuse it... i dunno, i'll have to think about my stance on this one
[edit] oh yeah, when/if you release it and gravity catches wind, they will more than likly change the protocols very fast... although they havn't done that for all the bots already... i wonder why -.-... nevermind gravity is too slow to get anything done

that is i DO NOT want to release it I just want it for myself and trusted people like you

[edit again] Forgot to answer you question there, sorry I'm using ngrep to sniff those lil packages
works great, run ro in 640x480 window mode, and have my puttty (ssh:ing to my router, win32 ngrep didn't seem to work very well) besides.

it would be nice if your bot can recognize different forms of the same questions, and interpret it correctly. To make finding the right info out quickly, how about build it in almost faq form. Like have a little icon on the screen they click on, which will pop up the faq window.. i'd like it to sorta look like the Skills window.
It could have collapsable folders and such.. just an idea. I don't know much about programming

Hehe, I cannt put that kinda thing in the game, that's up to gravity.
It will be a chat based helper,
you wisper a question to it, and get a reply.
or a command, like /kills (counts number of killed ppl in the visual area of the bot) and stuff. |
