Now I"m not saying this is true or not. Just don't shoot the messanger  But by all means challenge it and disprove/prove it if possible.

It was decided at the beginning of the week that iRO would be back as soon as the packet
encoding will be completely implemented. Indeed, almost all the hacks and bots comes
from our servers and then spread on the others. This is Gravity's top priority. As soon
as it'll be done, iRO will come back. It should not be long, and I almost can officially
announce you that Ragnarok will come back this September.
The new tech team is setting up, new GMs were hired and the service should be as good as
the Japanese one. Surprises also awaits us soon after the servers' reopening. But I will
tell you about that later!
Here is the true story of the International
Server being hacked. Most of it hasn"t been
heard before, except by the most connected
cheaters, the Gleek cheaters. Note that it
was not the Gleek cheaters that did it -
they just happened to find out about it.
About a week before the International server
went down, a problem surfaced. It was
impossible to delete your characters. Sort
of.
What really was happening was that the email
list was malfunctioning, and the character
server thought that everyone"s email was
blank. Word soon spread that you could
delete characters if you didn"t type in an
email address.
A bad cheater, who I won"t name even though
I know him/her, figured out a "great" idea.
he figured out that the character server
only checks that email address you
specif
Combined with the blank email address
problem, this became fatal. The hacker
wrote a Perl script to send "delete
character" packets for random character ID
numbers.
The hacker ran his/her Perl script to
delete several *thousand* random character
ID numbers. It is estimated that 1/4 of
the character database was deleted by this
hacker.
Rather than roll back the servers, Gravity
decided that it had enough of the
American server, and shut it down.

It fits in terms of why everyone's character was deleted as well as why they wouldn't answer BUT... could this just be the makings of a person with too much time on their hands?

it is possible... I mean there are many people who keep telling Gravity the loophole in their server... but they never listen...
it is not deletion of character that shutdown iRO it is the lack of caring by Gravity.. at least that is my personal opinion..
why do I say this?
Other servers are more stable and have more "stuff" than iRO..
the main difference is the language.. the gameplay is the same...

Well personally I hope it doens't come back anytime soon. I just started College and the failure rate for pure and applied sciences is 80% on first semester  |

well im sure some of the peices of the puzzle of missing chars and such will be uncovered when... erm correction *if* ragnarok* comes back up, most likley in october if ever...
