I need some recommendations for midis. I keep listening to an excellent pack of em over and over again, but it's getting old fast.
Thanks!

why listen to midis? why not mp3s: there is a larger selection, and a smaller file size
or do you like to look at the notes and edit them?

I dunno, I have a problem with many vocal songs. Ah well, can you recommend some Anime music sites then?

mp3s arnt smaller.. i will give a long explanation behind the mechanics behind midis and mp3s if it is needed, but midis where just great old school stuff, there where some real good ones that i still go back and listen to for nostalgia sake. Just because something is old doesnt mean it isnt better than what we have today, ie ff6 and/or chrono trigger kick most all other rpgs out of the water. And rag alpha was far superior to beta UO looks crappy and is very old but has more of a loyalty and fanbase than any other rpg, people play it for so long.

i thought mp3s were smaller because they are compressed, and they are smaller compared to wav's, arent they?
and i dont like any ffs, or chronotrigger. i never played rag alpha, but i agree that UO is fun =)

UO? Sigh...I don't know what that is, like usual. and I still can't believe I haven't played ff6 (did you know that's the racy one? The more reserved version would be the american ff3. Both are quite good from what I hear.)

Yeah, mp3s are compressed, they're compressed wavs...

But midis, get comparable compression when you zip them...though they're kinda useless then. Midis are kinda like sheet notes though. It contains information on what instrument plays what note, and that's it.

Wavs or mp3s on the other hand are more (orchestral?). They record sound in a huge group of frequencies. So voices may take up many different frequencies, but when all of the frequencies are put together they can make a realistic voice. That's why wavs and mp3s are bigger.

From the way I see it, midis can duplicate wavs...kinda. But if I wanted someone to speak in a midi, I'll have to find a whole bunch of instruments that work in the right frequencies, and play them all at the same time...Anyway, that's a theory of mine. Too much effort if you ask me.

So...can anyone recommend some midis?

Don't know if anyone's interested. But I just remembered one of my favorite midi sites. http://www.vgmusic.com

If there's a game whose music you liked, then this site would probably have it. I've found a lot of my favorites, and sometimes there's more than one variety of the same song. Heh, I remembered getting a Calypso remixed Zelda song, that was great. I wonder if they still have that, I don't think I have it on my hard drive anymore.

Don't get much call for midis...
The only place I can think of is a search on a search engine like altavista or yahoo, or a fileshare system like Kazaa or Direct Connect. Your base chances are in that order, if you asked me. Well, try Kazaa first - if you have it.

midi's are way smaller then mp3's simply because there quality is way lower, they only play individual notes on specific instrument sounds, making complex sounds like voices on midi files is very hard and rather crap quality.
The way i see it, midi's are good for web sites if you want a little tune or somthing, cos they are quick to d/l (being very small) but appart from that, use mp3's

thx but i found it on kazaa

cakewalk proAudio9.0

is it on version 10?
im sure it wont make much difference to my composer buddy, but he may, just maby, be abel to compose some music for your mmo sasami (or anyone else who needs music for a game they are making). He seemed quite interested by the idea of having his name in the credits:
